Spring Quarter - March 2017 - May 2017
2 Samuel - taught by Bob Hoffman
Second Samuel is one of the most glorious books ever written. As 2 Samuel begins, the dust is settling after the big battle between Saul and the Philistines. David is down in the dumps over the deaths of Saul and Jonathan, lamenting and writing a pretty catchy (if sad) song about it. But of course, this clears the way for him to ascend to the kingship of all Israel...Almost. Except Saul's son Ishbaal wants to be king, too. Throughout the course of the quarter we will investigate how God is working in the life of David and how he is working out a redemptive plan for all of mankind despite all the surrounding evil that pervades Israel. In the end God's mercy and compassion achieves his will and we will lean just how God himself manifests his truth and loving-kindness in the hearts of men.
Essentials of Membership - taught by Elders
This is our new member's course and runs a full quarter. This course is designed for both current members of Hope Church as well as those who desire to join with us. The class will not be lecture style. Our goal is to get people interacting with each other on both a casual level, as well as a Biblical one and to bring us to more of a unity of mind and heart in identity and direction as a church. We will be covering such topics as what it means to be Reformed and Presbyterian and what it means to be a member of a local church. It is not our expectation that everyone will agree with everything. However, it is important that we all understand the official positions of the church. The class will be moderated/taught by the six members of Session, including the pastor. Participation in this class does not constitute a commitment to join, but it does make that a viable option, both in terms of a better understanding as well as fulfilling a requirement for membership. Teenagers who desire to join the church are welcome to participate in this class or they can join the youth communicants' class.
